The issue of what to do with the children has been a topical debate in the France and UK. Charity Not On Our Watch estimated that there are upwards of 1,000 children who are now wandering the streets in France.
Fine Gael Chief Whip Regina Doherty has said she is in favour of relocating 200 of the children to Ireland and described it as a “no-brainer”. Speaking to the Irish Times, she said ministers would decide the Government’s position on the matter tomorrow.
