Poll: Will the super casino in Two Mile Borris boost tourism?

Have your say in today’s poll on the tourist potential of the €450m casino complex approved for a small Tipperary town.

AN BORD PLEANÁLA has approved the construction of a controversial €450m casino and leisure complex in the small Tipperary town Two Mile Borris.

The board approved plans for a full-size replica of the White House, a gambling casino, a 500-bedroom hotel, golf course and racing track at the site, but refused permission for a 1,500-seater music venue, which it deemed ‘inappropriate’.

Earlier this year, the heritage trust An Taisce said it opposed the complex because it was “ill-conceived” and estimated that its location would mean an increase in fuel and emissions.

Speaking after the planning board’s decision, Independent TD Michael Lowry said it would draw huge numbers of tourists to the area, particularly given the novelty of the White House replica. The replica interior will recreate how the White House originally looked, before successive US presidents redecorated.

Do you agree with Michael Lowry’s view that the casino complex will bring a huge boost in tourism to Ireland and to Tipperary?

Poll Results:

No, it's not actually Las Vegas (846)
Yes, it will definitely draw people (622)
Don't know (81)
