Lad Bible apologises to Prison Break star over meme about weight gain
Actor Wentworth Miller said on social media that the pictures were taken while he was suffering from depression.
A POPULAR UK-BASED viral news website has apologised to Prison Break star Wentworth Miller after creating a meme poking fun at his weight gain.
The LAD Bible shared two images of the actor highlighting his contrasting weight, one a shirtless PR shot and the other while he was on a break from acting.
After it appeared online, Miller took a screen-grab of the meme and responded with a Facebook post in which he described the depression he was suffering from at the time the picture on the right was taken.
“In 2010, at the lowest point in my adult life, I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to. Count on to get me through,” he said.
And I put on weight. Big f–king deal.
He went on to say that when he saw the meme appear on social media it “hurt to breathe” and then went on to encourage people to reach out to those suffering from mental health problems.
In a Facebook post today, The LAD Bible admitted that it had got it “very, very wrong” and that “mental health is no joke or laughing matter”.
Directly addressing the actor, it went on: “We applaud your raw honesty and promise to now cover such matters in the responsible manner that our audience expects.”
Miller starred in Prison Break between 2005 and 2009, and it will be revived for a new season this year.
In recent years he has spoken out on issues including his sexuality (Miller came out in 2013) and depression that he suffered as a teenager.
Speaking at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Seattle in 2013 he said: ”The first time I tried to kill myself I was 15. I waited until my family went away for the weekend. I was alone in the house and I swallowed a bottle of pills.”
When someone asks me if that was a cry for help I say no. Because I told no one. You only cry for help if you believe there is help to cry for.
