• It appears Greece may be considering pulling out of the euro zone. Der Spiegel has reported that European officials are holding a secret crisis meeting in Luxembourg tonight after it emerged that the Greek government felt it had no other option than to pull out of the euro. The meeting has just been confirmed by the BBC’s economics correspondent.
• The Pakistani intelligence chief could resign after the country’s intelligence services were widely criticised for failing to ascertain that Osama Bin Laden had been hiding out in the country for some years prior to his assassination by the US last Sunday, despite it being pointed out by a number of people.
• The number of people working in the public sector has fallen by 2,000 in the first quarter of 2011. Minister for public expenditure and reform Brendan Howlin welcomed the news.
• Also in the first three months of 2011, Ulster Bank lost a massive €441 million largely due to provisions for debt that the bank does not expect to be repaid. Not good news on the day the so-called ‘Doctor Doom’ Nouriel Roubini predicted Ireland could enter another recession.
• Voting in the UK has thrown up misery for the Liberal Democrats whilst the Scottish nationalists are toasting victory. The proposal to change the voting system has been rejected and in the northern town of Bury, they had a very novel way of figuring out who will control the council.

• Eamon Ryan has launched his bid to become leader of the Green Party but he had to deal with a helicopter in the background. No such trouble for the other candidates Malcolm Noonan and Phil Kearney.
• A fire broke out in the Social Welfare Services building on Pearse Street in Dublin today but luckily the fire station was just across the road and the incident was dealt with swiftly. No injuries were reported.
• Osama Bin Laden is dead and the world reacted, Enda Kenny tried a new hairstyle and met a legend. Here is the week in photos.
• Alcohol related crime in Ireland is on the rise according to new figures published today by the Irish Examiner. Alcohol Action said it was time to “get real”.
• The price of gas and electricity could rise by as much as 20 per cent just in time for the winter, it was revealed today by Bord Gáis. The company blamed rising energy prices internationally.
• “An important theological meeting of the cardinals. This time to discuss the canonicity of the Star Wars prequels and subsequent animated spin offs.” - (Not) Cardinal Sean Brady reports exclusively from inside the beatification of Pope John Paul II.
• Finally, is this the calmest man ever? Steven Hoag films a recent tornado in North Carolina that appears to be heading straight for him. “It’s blowing up some power lines now,” he deadpans as he informs the person on the other end of the phone that he’s okay. Watch:
