Donald Trump plans to 'make an exception' for London's new Muslim mayor

The presumptive Republican nominee has said he was “happy to see” Sadiq Khan emerge victorious in the London mayoral race.

THE NEW MAYOR of London, Labour’s Sadiq Khan, could be allowed to enter the US despite the fact that he is a Muslim according to Donald Trump.

45-year-old Khan, a former UK transport minister in the last Labour government, emerged victorious in the London mayoral election with a record majority on Saturday, beating off Conservative candidate Zac Goldsmith.

He has previously said that were he to visit the US on a fact-finding mission he would have to do so before the presidential election on 8 November, as, should Trump emerge as the winner, he will instate a ban on all Muslims entering America.

According to the New York Times, Trump responded that “there will always be exceptions” when asked about how his ban on Muslims would affect Khan in an interview yesterday.

Stating that he was “happy to see” Khan’s election, the billionaire real estate mogul expanded: “I think it’s a very good thing, and I hope he does a very good job because frankly that would be very, very good.”

Because I think if he does a great job, it will really — you lead by example, always lead by example.
If he does a good job and frankly if he does a great job, that would be a terrific thing.

Trump first mooted his proposed ban on Muslims following the terror attacks in Paris on 13 November last which left 130 people dead.

His plan is one among many that have caused widespread outrage across the US in a presidential campaign that has proven to be one of the most controversial in history.

Despite the controversies, Trump has emerged as the presumptive Republican nominee for November’s election.

Khan, for his part, described the tactics used against him in the oft-bitter London mayoral race as being “like something straight out of the Donald Trump playbook”.

In a recent interview with Time, Khan said that he would want to visit the US “before January in case Donald Trump wins”.

“I want to go to America to meet with and engage with American mayors,” he said.

If Donald Trump becomes the president I’ll be stopped from going there by virtue of my faith, which means I can’t engage with American mayors and swap ideas.
