Two arrested after €5.25m of cocaine seized in Monaghan during operation involving Belgian Police

A man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s were arrested.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE been arrested after gardaí seized €5.25m of cocaine in Co Monaghan.

As part of ongoing investigations targeting organised crime under Operation Tara, the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, supported by the Dublin Crime Response Team, conducted an intervention of a number of vehicles and searched a business premises in Co Monaghan yesterday.

During the course of the operation, gardaí seized suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €5.25 million.

A man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s were arrested and are currently detained at Garda Stations in the Monaghan Division.

This operation was also supported by the Custom Revenue Service, local units in Monaghan, as well as international partners from the Belgian Federal Maritime Police.

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis and a garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.

Operation Tara is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched in 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels.
