THERE WAS SOME rowdiness in the Seanad earlier today, as members got back to business for the first time since the Government confirmed plans to abolish it.

Marie Louise O’Donnell – an independent senator who was appointed to the chamber by the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny – took grave offence to comments from Fianna Fáil’s Marc MacSharry.

MacSharry, criticising the plans to abolish the Seanad, described Kenny as acting like “a clown”.

It didn’t go down well.
