Beer bottle throwing motorist arrested for drink driving

The driver was found to have no licence, no insurance and was over the limit.

GARDAÍ ARRESTED A driver who was spotted flinging beer bottles out the window of a car in Waterford last night.

When pulled over, the driver was found to have no licence, no insurance and failed a roadside breath test.

The motorist was brought to the nearest garda station where an evidential sample of breath was given. Gardaí said that the driver will be appearing in court soon following the incident.

Meanwhile, officers in Dublin carried out a number of drink driving tests in the city. A total of 52 driver were tested for drugs and alcohol intoxication on the Con Colbert Road, Dublin 8 this morning. All drivers passed.

Arrests

The tests follow a checkpoint which was setup on the M50 on Friday evening. This was the first time a checkpoint was set up on the motorway. On previous occasions, they were placed on the off-ramps of junctions.

Officers breathalysed 164 motorists and one person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. There were also a number of drivers caught without tax and/or NCT.

Two cars were seized during the operation which lasted just over an hour. It is expected that more checkpoints are likely on the motorway in the future.
