What’s the rush? Why do they have to get in done tonight?

We’re signing legislation tonight that will leave dept for Generations to come…. this is our Reparation like Germany after WW1 which took 92 years for Germany to pay …We did not kill anyone .it was a very small golden circle of Irish people whom Bankrupt this country along with a total corrupt Government inFianna Fail ….we should be on the street tonight right now atlas there is not a fight in our spirits we’re a broken people in many ways ….We should be annoyed at this act tonight we should have defaulted instead of carrying this Burden …

If this is rammed thru tonight without proper debate it is a total disgrace. The appeal against the legality of thr 30billion Anglo bailout / promissory note is not lodged yet. Its the government legally putting the Anglo debt on the shoulders of taxpayers before the legality can be addresses. If this goes ahead our politicians should be strung up for treason.

Can’t think of anything that irish people could do that would make this government work late. The eu clicks its fingers and it happens. Its about time they realised who they really work for!

it has a massive implications. The bank guarantee was challenged in the high court by an Irish citizen which was rejected but the high court said that the challenge could be brought by an elected representative. Some TDs are planning to make that application to the high court (People before Profit). This has made FG and LB act fast. They’re moving the debt in the form of a promissory note to an Irish Bond and by doing so they’re making the debt the responsibility of the Irish citizen. Now they have always said that the debt is the Irish citizens’ responsibility but legally it wasn’t and by making the change to an Irish bond the debt cannot be challenged or renegotiated as legally it will be our responsibility. (That being said Enda never had any intention of renegotiating it as he’s previously said that ”we pay all our debts.”)
So sit up and take head because not only are we going to be paying billions more over a longer time into our grandchildren’s lifetime and they’re making it impossible to have any recourse. Colin Miley

Surely this deserves a vote from us? Why the rush? This deserves a public debate as this decision will lumber generations with debt.

Government Chief Whip, Paul Keogh, doesn’t seem to realise that the public own IBRC and have a right to transparency. The proposed deal is crap anyway. Stretching our debt moves the burdening our children with this debt to burdening our unborn grandchildren as well. Oh for some competent negotiators instead of weak politicians and inept civil servants!!!

Lots of negative comments,everyone seems so concerned about the future of the country but not motivated to go protest outside the dail.

Why aren’t comments open on the story about the president returning to sign off on any possible legislation this meeting may put forward?

Here’s what i had to say about it;

Can anyone explain the point of the President not being politically active in this country? I mean they have this power of signing or not signing legislation, altho god forbid for them they don’t, or returning it for review but yet they aren’t supposed to be involved or express personal opinions. They are the only directly elected individual in the whole country. Surely they should have a say! I want to hear what michael d has to say on this. I don’t think he’d be too happy!

I hope the Dubs come out and protest. If we are sold out tonight we need to come out onto our streets and protest Peacefully but Loudly. Saturday theres a nationwide March against Austerity I hope people come out.

They’ll probably take a week off now after doing a bit of overtime.

For the second time the spineless political class rolls over and accepts a deal whereby the Irish people are saddled with the bad investments of German and French banks. And to add insult to injury, Micky D is off on a jolly. You couldn’t make it up.

If these bonds reach their full maturity of 40 years then the real value of the 31 billion paid back will be negligible. What price was a house or a car 40 years ago? My father’s first new car was £800. Therefore, spare me the concerns about our grandchildren. In our grandchildren’s time the effect of these repayments will be barely noticeable. Anything that improves things for the public purse in the short term is all that bothers me, and the significant reduction of repayments from 3.1bn p/a to 500-700 million is to be welcomed. Those espousing not paying the debt, essentially a default, should do well to look at Argentina’s situation at present; the bailiffs are seizing Argentinean state assets, despite them defaulting early in the last decade.
