DÁIL ÉIREANN HAS comprehensively defeated a proposal to hold a referendum on accepting the EU-IMF bailout deal. The proposal, which had been tabled by Richard Boyd Barrett and supported by another 15 members of the Dáil’s technical grouping, was opposed by the Fine Gael and Labour parties and was defeated by 121 votes to 27. Fianna Fáil, which was in government when the deal was agreed, voted on the government side.
