Two fatal road crashes within 24 hours - in Sligo and in Co Cork

A man in his 80s died in the Sligo crash. In Cork, a woman in her 30s was killed when her car collided with an SUV.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING two fatal road crashes, in Sligo and Cork.

A man in his 80s and a woman in her 30s died.

The first crash, involving a car and a van, happened at 12.20pm yesterday afternoon at Lufnadeffa, Ballysadare in Sligo.

A man in his 80s, who was a passenger in the car, was fatally injured.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 80s, and the van driver, a man in his 50s, were transported from the scene to Sligo Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

This morning, a woman in her 30s was fatally injured when her car collided with an SUV at around 8.30am on the Castlelyons to Conna road.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV – a man in his late 30s – was also injured. He’s been taken to Cork University Hospital where he is believed to be in a stable condition. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to both incidents.
