A NUMBER OF homes were evacuated in Derry overnight after a bomb detonated in a car in the west of the city.
The PSNI say that that the explosion took place at Carrickreagh Gardens at about 10.4o pm last night.
A number of residents were then evacuated from their homes while explosive experts examined the scene.
The PSNI confirmed that a viable explosive device had detonated inside a car parked in the area.
The were no injuries caused by the explosion and residents returned to their homes at about 5.10 am.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact Detectives at Strand Road Police Station on the new non-emergency number 101.
