GARDAÍ HAVE CARRIED out another drugs raid in the capital and have seized a small quantity of cannabis and cash.
An estimated €5,000 worth of the drug was discovered when officers stopped a van in the Kevin Street area of the south inner city yesterday afternoon. The drugs and €21,000 in cash was found in a residence nearby. Gardai arrested two men at the scene.
The operation was led by detective and uniform Gardaí attached to Kevin Street and Kilmainham Garda stations as part of Operation Thistle, an initiative designed to tackle the lower echelons of the Kinahan cartel.
A garda spokesman said: “The arrested men were detained at Kilmainham Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1996. One of the men was charged in connection with the investigation and is due to appear before Dublin District Court at a later date.
“The second man was released from garda custody without charge. A file is being prepared for the DPP.”
This follows significant gun and drug seizure in the capital earlier this week.
