Man arrested over 2006 murder of Denis Donaldson

The man in his 40s is currently being detained in Letterkenny Garda Station.

A MAN HAS been arrested in connection with the 2006 murder of IRA informer Denis Donaldson.

Donaldson was shot dead at Cloghercor, Doochary, Co Donegal, in April 2006, in a killing claimed by the Real IRA.

Months earlier it had emerged that the Sinn Féin member had worked as an agent for the police and MI5 for 20 years.

The man in his 40s was arrested today and is currently being detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

Today’s arrest comes one week after a 74-year-old was in court charged with withholding information regarding the involvement of another person in the killing.

Patrick Gillespie, with an address at Craigvar Street in Glasgow, was granted bail by the Special Criminal Court last Friday.

Gardaí are appealing to any persons who may have information in relation to this investigation to contact them at the incident room at Letterkenny Garda Station at 074 9167100, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666111 or any garda station.
