AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl has died in a farming accident in County Mayo this evening.

Gardaí confirmed the young girl was fatally injured on her family farm near Lismolin in Castlebar.

The accident happened shortly before 5pm.

The child was rushed to Mayo University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Gardaí in Westport are investigating the incident and the Health and Safety Authority have been informed.
