One man dead and another in a serious condition after Cork crash between 4x4 and van

The driver of the van was taken to hospital by ambulance, his condition is understood to be serious but stable.

A MAN HAS died and another is in a serious condition after a crash in Cork this morning.

A 4×4 and a van collided head on on the southbound carriageway of the M8 motorway at junction 16 at around 11.30am.

Gardaí and the emergency services attended the scene at Rathcormac.

The driver of the 4×4, a man aged 84, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was taken to University Hospital where a post mortem examination will take place tomorrow.

The driver of the van, a man in his late 20s, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Cork. A statement from Gardaí said the man continues to recover this evening.

Garda forensics have finished their examination at the scene of the crash.

The M8 has fully reopened to traffic.
