FORMER FINE GAEL Senator Fidelma Healy Eames caused quite the stir yesterday when she sent the following tweet:
As a result the senator was trending on Twitter, as was #pcgonemad.
People responded to her tweet in the following ways:
Yesterday she told TheJournal.ie that a ban was unlikely to happen in Ireland, but there’s a chance of a ‘ripple’ effect occurring with other schools following suit.
Speaking to Pat Kenny on Newstalk this morning, she explained her tweet:
My tweet was very much to say, ‘Happy Mother’s Day’. Gosh, I’d never like to see anything like that happening here, let’s hope we can celebrate it after same-sex marriage is passed here, obviously, if it is passed…
She said she had made one error in her tweet. She wanted to acknowledge she had said some US states had banned the day, but what she meant to say was some schools.
Look, all I’m saying is, let’s think about unintended outcomes, let’s have an open debate.
