1. #IN THE BIN: The Cabinet has agreed to freeze bin charges for a period of 12 months. The industry will also cooperate with the government on a public information campaign to educate householders on charging schemes.

2. #WHISTEBLOWERS: Former justice minister Alan Shatter was in the High Court this morning to appeal some findings of the Guerin report, RTÉ News reports. His lawyers said the findings had caused him to resign from office.

3. #WASHED AWAY: The Defence Forces have launched a review of how it holds information after a former army officer lost notes relating to an official complaint. The crucial files were lost due to ‘burglary and flooding’.

4. #CHA-CHING: Germany’s top court has ruled that the ECB can use a crisis-solving tool which Eurosceptics said allowed it print money to give to states. The challenge to the bond-buying plan could have ended the single currency.

5. #KEEP THAT RACKET DOWN: Dublin City Council looks set to ban backing tracks for street musicians around the city. The expected ban of amplifiers is not set to materialise after all.
