Gardaí clamp down on speeding motorists with one driver caught at 172 kph

Gardaí were out in force last night.

A NUMBER OF motorists were caught speeding last night as gardaí carried out speed checks.

Fermoy Traffic Unit spotted one motorist driving at 172 kph on the M8. The driver is now due to receive a summons for dangerous driving.

Meanwhile in Limerick, six separate drivers were detected speeding in a space of just 90 minutes.

The speeds ranged from 142 kph to 157 kph.

A fixed charge penalty notice of €80 and three penalty points were given out.
