  • A teenage girl died in the water off Burrow Beach in Sutton, Co Dublin on Sunday. 
  • Diesel has been leaking into the River Liffey from an underground pipe connection near the Samuel Beckett Bridge for over a year.
  • Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin have today arrested a woman in her 50s. 
  • A vigil has taken place for Alex Coughlan, who died after an assault in Blanchardstown in Dublin.
  • Gangland figure Gerry Hutch has broken his silence following the Dublin Central byelection, saying he has “no regrets” and hinting at a future run for elected office.
  • Gardaí contacted UK broadcaster Channel 4 over a social media post at the weekend which implied that the force was responsible for the death of Yves Sakila.

A tiny blue octopus that could curl up and fit in the palm of your hand has been confirmed as a new deep-sea species.  

The new species, Microeledone galapagensis, has been announced in a paper in the journal Zootaxa.

The octopus was first spotted in 2015 during a deep-sea expedition of the Galápagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador.
