RTÉ HAS ANNOUNCED the appointment of Jim Jennings as their new managing director of radio.
Jennings has been working in the role in an acting capacity for the past six months but will now take the role on a full time basis following what RTÉ says was a public competition.
In his role as managing director of radio, Jennings will also sit on the executive board of RTÉ.
Jennings has worked in the national broadcaster for over 25 years and previously held the position as head of Radio 1. He has also been executive producer of The Late Late Show, the Rose of Tralee and a number of live broadcast events including the Special Olympics opening ceremony in 2003 and the general election in 2002.
RTÉ director general Noel Curran said that in his role as head of Radio 1, Jennings managed to maintain the position of the station in a competitive environment. “Jim Jennings has a huge range of editorial and management experience and a keen understanding of the unique position of RTÉ Radio nationally,” he said.
Jennings was interviewed by TheJournal.ie a number of months ago about the difficulties in implementing financial cuts across the station.
