Man in his 50s dies following mountain bike crash in Co Wexford

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash yesterday.

A MAN IN his 50s has died following a mountain biking incident in a wooded area in Askamore, Co Wexford.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the scene on private land in Askamore, around 17km west of Gorey, shortly after 1pm yesterday afternoon.

The cyclist was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man’s body has since been removed to the mortuary at Wexford General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The local coroner has been notified and a file is being prepared.

Local TD Brian Brennan described the incident as “devastating news” for the community in North Wexford, adding in a post on social media that his thoughts are with the man’s family and friends.
