Open Thread: Who do you want to see running for President?

The campaign will be heating up in the coming weeks – who do you think should be on the ballot paper?

THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION campaigns are revving up a bit now as we approach September.

Independent TD Catherine Connolly was first out of the traps getting her campaign going. Businessman Gareth Sheridan has been putting himself out there, but he still needs to be signed off on by four local authorities.

And then we have Fine Gael, who in the last week had to reopen its nomination process, with former minister Heather Humphreys hoovering up endorsements from TDs and senators.

There’s still lots of speculation about what way Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin will go.

Anyone who is an Irish citizen, over the age of 35 and thinks they have a chance at winning can seek to be nominated as a candidate. Half of the candidates in 2018 were private citizens, who had little-or-no background in politics.

So, with the campaigns set to heat up over the coming weeks, we’d like to know, party political or otherwise:

Who would you like to see on the ballot paper for the Presidential election? And why?
