PORNOGRAPHY HAS LONG been the subject of debate among feminists divided over whether it empowers or degrades women.
According to some campaigners, mainstream porn – as opposed to independent porn made for women, by women – promotes a submissive view of female sexuality.
That outlook is shared by the Kerry Women’s Interactive Network, a feminist group that is calling on the government to block all porn websites in Ireland, according to today’s Irish Daily Star.
A spokesperson told the paper that the group believes the industry damages the perception of women and exploits actors who have turned to the business out of desperation.
