Receivers appointed to private clinic in Waterford

Receivers have been appointed to Whitfield Clinic in Waterford city, however it is to continue operating under new management.

RECEIVERS HAVE BEEN appointed to the the private hospital Whitfield Clinic in Waterford city.

The clinic, which is to continue operating under new management, employs 160 people and provides 40 inpatient beds.

The Irish Examiner reports that the purpose of the appointment is to “secure the future of the Whitfield Clinic and therefore protect employment”.

Kieran Wallace and Barry Donohue of KPMG have been appointed as joint receivers in the company – Euro Care Healthcare Ltd – by Anglo Irish Bank. Anglo is owed approximately €85 million, the Irish Times reports.

Philomena Shovlin, who previously worked as chief executive of St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Dublin, has been appointed as the interim chief executive by the board of Euro Care Healthcare Ltd, reports RTÉ.

The UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre, which shares a campus with the Clinic, has said that the appointment will gave no affect on it: “The decision by Anglo Irish bank to appoint a share receiver to the Whitfield Clinic does not affect UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre directly as it is a separate legal entity,” it confirmed in a statement.
