Status Yellow thunderstorm warning in effect in Dublin, Kildare and Meath

The weather warning will remain in effect until 4pm.

A STATUS YELLOW thunderstorm warning has been issued for counties Dublin, Kildare and Meath.

Met Éireann said scattered thunderstorms this afternoon could lead to lightning damage, spot flooding and gusty conditions.

The weather warning will remain in effect until 4pm.

The forecaster said the thunderstorms will mainly be in Leinster and Ulster, with the chance of hail also.

The rest of the day is set to bring frequent, widespread showers, but there will be some sunny spells in between. Temperatures will reach highs of 13 to 18C with moderate to fresh and gusty southwest winds also forecast.

Tonight will be cloudy with further showers or longer spells of rain. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11C.

Widespread showers will continue into Thursday, merging into longer spells of rain at times in cool and blustery conditions. The showers will become less frequent later in the day and sunny spells will develop. Highs of 12 to 16C are expected.

Thursday night will be cool with the temperature dropping to between 5 and 9C. Moderate to fresh westerly winds will ease overnight into Friday, Met Éireann said.

A mix of well scattered showers and sunny spells is forecast for Friday morning, before cloud builds from the southwest of the country throughout the afternoon with rain expected to follow. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16C.
