AN ELDERLY WOMAN has died after being hit by a van in in Co Cavan.

The incident happened at around 7.15am this morning on the N3 at Lisgrey, Virginia.

A female pedestrian, aged in her 80s, suffered serious injuries after being struck by a van.

She was taken to Cavan General Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time afterwards.

A post-mortem on the woman has been arranged.

Currently the road is closed and traffic diversions are in place.
