Tonight’s the night. We help you choose where to go.
IT HAS FINALLY arrived – Culture Night!
Tonight, hundreds of thousands of us take to the streets of our cities and towns to explore the plethora of events specially put on for this exciting event.
We’ve already covered Dublin city, Cork City and County, the West coast, the Midlands, and most of the counties in the north of the island.
Today we look at the final parts of the country.

Carlow
- Film and history fans – Women by Amanda Coogan explores the Church Street disaster of 1913.
- Photographs of Carlow’s past and present are on show at County Carlow Library.
- Various artists explore silent cinema and 1920s art with one-off works around Carlow.
- A short play by John McKenna will be performed at 1pm.
- Catch the band St John the Gambler at Tully’s Bar.

Cavan
- Enjoy a night of traditional music at NYAH, or an evening of religious music and song at Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre.
- The incredible Lisa O’Neill will perform at Cavan Museum.
- A new black comedy about worrying and Eminem will be performed at The Castle Pub in Belturbet.
- An art workshop will give you the opportunity to have your work on show at Market Square.
- Remember Abigail’s Party, the classic Mike Leigh comedy? You can watch it in theatre form at the Abbey Bar.

Dún-Laoghaire Rathdown
In its first year of Culture Night, this is a chance to see the DLR Lexicon library in its glory before its official opening.
- Music: Sea Shanties: Songs from the High Seas – will be performed by the Dún Laoghaire Choral Society.
- For art fans, Soundings, an exhibition curated and selected by artist Michael McLoughlin features the work of six artists and a series of images featuring RNLI officers in their lifeboat gear pictured doing everyday things in Dun Laoghaire (see pic above).
- For book lovers, Taking The Plunge, an anthology blending fiction, nonfiction and poetry will be launched on the evening with readings by 12 authors.
Elsewhere in the county:
- Chequerboard and Luke Slott perform live at 8.45pm.
- Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre will hold tours with some interesting hosts.
- Families can head to Imaginosity for workshops and play, or the Incredible Magic Book Show by Silly Billy.
- Or you could visit the James Joyce Museum or the National Maritime Museum.

Kildare
- The launch of the film All About Eva takes place at the Odeon Cinema in Newbridge.
- Find out about traditional living and skills at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre.
- Athy Heritage Centre will commemorate World War I through art, while Athy Community Library will hold a tactile exhibition about Irish history.
- Griese Youth Theatre will show off their productions and celebrate 15 years in Ballitore.
- Bring the family to the Steam Museum and walled gardens for some fun.

Kilkenny
- Learn about fine art printing at Blackstack Studio’s 5pm workshop.
- Head to Rollercoaster Records to hear Holy Roman Army play, or the Town Hall to hear The Scenes perform. For something more rootsy, the Midnight Union Band play The Canal.
- Find out about archaeology and history at the Kilkenny Pop-Up Museum.
- Children can find out how to reconnect with nature thanks to Project Wild, which is being screened at the Heritage Council Office.

Meath
- From 9pm, the Teresa Brayton Enfield Comhaltas branch will play some tunes outside, and then hold a session at the Bridge House in Enfield.

Tipperary
- Take a historical walking tour from 7pm, including a tour of Nenagh Castle.
- An outdoor cinema will be hosted by Nenagh Arts Centre, featuring work by Irish directors.
- Take part in a ceramic tile demo and workshop at Country Choice in Nenagh.
- Clonmel will host a workshop for musicians on mixing, and an open mic event for choirs and singers, among its events.
- Carrick-on-Suir’s past will be explored in an exhibition on the ‘forgotten times’.

Waterford
- Young people of all ages are invited to The Arch for workshops on the likes of drama, film, and creative writing.
- Families and their smallies will find lots to entertain them from 10am at Central Library.
- A dance music event run by RePublik Music will hosted at Blackfriars Church.
- Into technology? Meet the makers at South East Makerspace from 6pm.
- Find out about Vikings, medieval times and Georgian Ireland at Waterford Treasures.

Wexford
- Wexford Opera House will host performances and workshops - full info here.
- Lots of art galleries will remain open for the night - find out about them here.
- Catch St Patrick’s Pipe and Drum Band at Selskar Square this evening.
- Hear some beautiful organ played to a silent movie at Rowe Street Church.
- There’s also local drama at Wexford Library, workshops at Wexford Arts Centre, performances at Selskar Abbey and St Iberius Church.

Wicklow
- Take a guided walk around Glendalough with poet and storyteller Martin Swords.
- Visit Wicklow Historic Gaol for its interactive tour.
- A two-man show about the Science of Flann O’Brien looks like a treat.
- Mermaid Arts Centre will host a number of performances.
- Learn some samba at this workshop for people of all ages and abilities.

The Gaeltacht
The Gaeltacht areas around Ireland will also have lots of events on, including céilís, events on Inis Oírr and Inis Mór, and lots of music.
