AA Roadwatch is reporting that a collision is currently blocking the middle and right lanes between the northbound Lucan (junction seven) and Blanchardstown (junction six) exits on the M50.
They are also reporting that the delays from this stretch back as far as junction nine (Red Cow exit).
A black hatchback drove up a slip road – the wrong way – before colliding with a second car, leaving a woman in hospital.
Gardai diverted traffic from N11 to M50 to keep road clear after a man’s behaviour on the bridge caused concern.
Emergency services later cleared the car that had caught fire on the Dublin motorway. Gardaí said there were no injuries.
Charlie Flanagan has written to the Transport Minister suggesting that motorway lights could be switched off overnight to save money and energy.
The collisions took place at around 8.15am today- there are no reports of injuries so far.
THERE HAS BEEN an oil spill on the M50 at the junction with the N4 Lucan road. It’s understood the spill was caused by a collision at around 9am.
A reduced number of lanes are now in operation and traffic is being disrupted. Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the spill.

TRAFFIC ON THE M50 outside Dublin is experiencing significant delays as a result of a traffic accident in south Dublin. A two-car collision has blocked a number of lanes at Junction 12 (Firhouse) northbound, with traffic backed up as far as Junction 13 near Sandyford. The road has reopened but long delays remain on approach.
The woman was out walking in Ballymount Park, Clondalkin, on Monday when she was seriously assaulted by a single man at about midday.
Toll company eFlow says that new measures introduced in March have led to the reduction in the number of motorists tailgating.
eFlow has been working with the Gardaí to so far catch over 100 motorists.
Two women in their 70s, and a man in his 30s, are hospitalised following a six-car collision on the southbound carriageway.

THE M50 MOTORWAY UPGRADE has officially been completed. The project cost €950m and took over four years to finish. The final N3 interchange section was opened to traffic at 5.30 this evening. Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey said it was a marvellous day for Ireland. His department said the upgrade reduced journey times by up to 50%.
DIVERSIONS ARE IN PLACE on a section of the M50 following an accident this morning at Junction 16, Cherrywood. A section of the road has been closed. RTÉ reports that a car is believed to have overturned in the south-bound lane.
INDEPENDENT TD MICK Wallace is to file a complaint about the Minister for Justice’s use of information on RTÉ’s Prime Time last week.
Alan Shatter said on live television that the Wexford deputy benefited from garda discretion when he was cautioned for using a mobile phone – but not given penalty points. Wallace insists he is not aware of such an incident.
Shatter has stood by his remarks and he has also been backed by the Taoiseach who said that “people can’t have it both ways”. “You cannot be saying no discretion and at the same time availing of discretion.”
Labour Deputy Kevin Humphreys told Newstalk Breakfast this morning that he thought making the remarks was “poor judgement” on the minister’s part. He called on Shatter to explain how he received the information. Others have claimed the information could have been made public in a different manner, and not on live television without giving Wallace prior warning.
